OSS ยท IM System Service Fulfillment โ€“ Inventory Management

Terms

AM
Activation Management

The third component in Telecom Egypt's OSS stack. Activates services on the network after IM completes inventory updates.

ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line

Broadband technology delivering internet over copper phone lines. Asymmetric = different download/upload speeds.

attrList
Attribute List

The XML block in EgyptWorkSheetAll SOAP requests containing all technical/resource parameters (RFS data). Nested inside bussItem.

bussItem
Business Item

A single service provisioning action within a SOAP request. Contained inside bussInfo.

CFS
Customer Facing Service

Service parameters visible to or about the customer (name, email, account number, username, password). IM classifies CFS vs RFS automatically.

CRM
Customer Relationship Management

The customer-facing system where orders originate. Telecom Egypt's CRM sends orders to OM.

CPE
Customer Premises Equipment

Hardware installed at the customer's location โ€” ONT, router, STB, IP phone.

DCN
Data Communication Network

The internal network connecting OSS servers, including VPN tunnels and firewall policies.

DSLAM
Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer

Network equipment at the exchange that aggregates ADSL/VDSL subscriber lines.

FTTH
Fiber to the Home

Fiber optic broadband technology delivering internet directly to the subscriber's premises.

flowId
Flow Identifier

Unique identifier included in each SOAP request from OM. Used as an idempotency key by IM.

IM
Inventory Management

The system documented here. Stores all service and resource inventory for Telecom Egypt's OSS.

IPCC
IP Call Center

Call center infrastructure based on IP telephony.

IPTV
Internet Protocol Television

Television service delivered over IP network infrastructure.

Interface through which management systems (like IM) access network element data. Requires licensing from Huawei.

NE
Network Element

A physical or virtual network device (DSLAM, OLT, ONT, switch, etc.).

NMS
Network Management System

Software platform for managing network devices. Matrix and eMatrix are NMS systems.

OM
Order Management

The second component in the OSS stack. Receives orders from CRM and sends work orders to IM and AM.

OLT
Optical Line Terminal

Central office equipment that connects to ONTs in an FTTH network.

ONT
Optical Network Terminal

Customer-side device in an FTTH deployment. Converts optical signal to ethernet.

OSS
Operations Support System

The software systems (OM, IM, AM) used to support telecom service operations.

POP
Point of Presence

A physical location where network equipment aggregates subscriber connections. popid in SOAP = exchange POP.

PPPoE
Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet

Authentication protocol used for DSL broadband connections. UserName and Password in SOAP are PPPoE credentials.

RFS
Resource Facing Service

Technical/network parameters needed to provision the service (frame, slot, port, VLAN, IP, OLT, etc.). IM classifies these automatically.

SMSC
Short Message Service Center

SMS gateway infrastructure.

SIP
Session Initiation Protocol

Protocol for VoIP/IP-Phone services. SIPDomainName in SOAP specifies the SIP domain.

STB
Set-Top Box

IPTV receiver device. STB SN and MAC are tracked in IM.

UAT
User Acceptance Testing

VDSL
Very-high-speed Digital Subscriber Line

Faster DSL technology than ADSL. Requires shorter copper loop lengths.

VLAN
Virtual Local Area Network

Network segmentation tag used in FTTH deployments. Assigned per subscriber in IM.

WO
